Taken soon after the 6.3 magnatude quake hit Christchurch 22 February 2011. A friend tried to get home when the road opened up and her 4 wheel drive went down. We could not get it out! The grey liquefaction has stuck the other car fast. It took less than an hour to grow this thick.

A car stuck in a large pothole on River Road. The wheels on the right hand side of the car have fallen into the hole, leaving the car grounded against the road surface. The photographer comments, "This car belonged to a postal delivery worker - the NZ Post bike rack is mounted on the towbar. The owner must have biked home. Later a tow truck arrived to extract the car from the hole that had opened under its front wheel".

In a Christchurch street still covered in liquefaction man weeps over his four-wheel drive car, which has a number plate showing the word 'macho'. Two women who are working at clearing the road of silt watch and one of them observes that 'he's not handling the quake well at all... Keeps getting silt smears on the 4 x 4!' Context - The Christchurch earthquake of 22 February 2011. Liquefaction is a particular problem. There is a point being made here about the 'macho' man who sobs over his car and the two staunch women who get on with the cleaning-up effort. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).
