A house, one of the few still remaining in the Dallington Red Zone (Avonside Drive, Dallington). The area is "red zoned" due to land damage from earthquakes (mainly the February 22nd 2011 6.4 magnitude quake).
The result of the magnitude 7.1 Christchurch earthquake at 4.35am on September 4th 2010. Taken from Dallington Terrace looking towards Avonside Drive. This pumping station used to be level. When the tide is in that flax bush on the bend appears to be growing from the middle of the river, suggesting the land has slumped about a meter.
A sewage pumping station on Avonside Drive near the intersection with Robson Avenue has been lifted out of the ground by liquefaction. The photographer comments, "A Sunday afternoon ride to New Brighton, then back via Aranui, Wainoni, Dallington, and Richmond. Not a cheerful experience. Pumping station. Another hydraulically-lifted sewage pumping station, this time on Avonside Drive".
There is some beauty in the desolate and near empty Dallington Red Zone.

Teams of building inspectors gathered at the Linwood Service Centre before heading into the eastern suburbs en masse. Movement around Dallington Terrace was varied. The Medway Street footbridge from River Road to Avonside Drive".
A sewage pumping station on Avonside Drive has been lifted out of the ground by liquefaction. In the background, the damaged Snell Place footbridge over the Avon River is closed off with cordon fencing. The photographer comments, "A Sunday afternoon ride to New Brighton, then back via Aranui, Wainoni, Dallington, and Richmond. Not a cheerful experience. Dallington footbridge. The two pieces of this foot bridge have moved towards each other, so the bridge has developed quite a peak. The sewage pumping station has been heaved out of the ground by hydraulic pressure during quakes".
An aerial photograph of the Horseshoe Lake district. The photograph has been captioned by BeckerFraserPhotos, "The area circumscribed by a loop of the River Avon is all zoned red, except for the park at the upper left. On the other side of the river, most of the land is also red-zoned apart from the piece in the upper left".
