The painting was part of the 'Present Tense' project which sought to highlight the inconvenience of the city in the present day. Visitors to the store were asked to choose five paintings they would like to see presented as a billboard installation in Auckland.

To their right is the new Press House building with many broken windows. In the foreground, the Coachman building has sustained earthquake damage to the façade. Sections of the second storey walls have crumbled, and the bricks have fallen onto the footpath below. Wire fences have been placed around the building as a cordon. Red stickers on the front door and the wire fence indicate that the building is not safe to enter.

In the video, Press reporter Olivia Carville describes the experiences of people within the central city. There is also footage of a woman being rescued from the ChristChurch Cathedral, people trapped in the Press building, damaged buildings on Colombo Street and Manchester Street, people evacuating the Forsyth Barr building using a rope, and people gathering in Latimer Square.
