In North Hagley Park thousands of people gather for a Memorial Service in a day of remembrance and to stand united in two minutes of silence. Then Hewitt Humphrey reads the names of those who died in the earthquake .

The completed memorial blanket. This blanket was created by members of the Lyttelton community, with the iconic felt hearts that were created after the earthquake as well as depictions of some of the buildings lost during the earthquake in Lytteton.

The Citizens' Memorial statue beside the cathedral, with bracing around the neck and waist of the angel to prevent further damage. Taken on a day when a walkway was opened up between Re:Start Mall and Cathedral Square to allow temporary public access.
