Aftermath of September 4th Earthquake in Canterbury. Shops on Colombo Street in Christchurch. The initial 7.1 quake has been followed by around 1590 aftershocks recorded to date - causing further damage to already weakened structures.
Taken several days after the 6.3 magnatude quake hit Christchurch 22 February 2011. Processed in HDR to capture some of the "feeling" when thinking about the loss of lives when the quake hit.

Taken from Battersea St, looking towards Sandyford St..
Corner of Colombo St and Battersea St. A lot more of the fascade has collapsed.
This restaurant used to do bookings for large groups only and you all had to pick and wear funny hats from hooks around the walls.
The side wall of the building on the left collapsed onto their roof, collapsing it into the stonemasons store. Several gravestones were also damaged!
A view after the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch 4 September 2010. Corner of Colombo and Byron Streets. Given a bit of a HDR process to add some of what I was "feeling" at the time.
Reasons why it pays not to be a smoker - if the quake had hit during opening hours there would have been probably half a dozen smokers underneath the black awning crushed by falling bricks.
Compare this Jan 2011 shot with one taken earlier.
Photo taken Jan 2011 - the cracks in the front of the building get a little bigger with each aftershock.

Same view as a previous shot - taken in January 2011 after the block of buildings was demolished.

If you look very closely, running from the nearest right desk to the second desk on the left hand side, you can see my 'fault-line', - the crack that runs the length of the classroom under the lino.
