The Anglican church yesterday announced members of Canterbury's synod will now decide the earthquake damaged cathedral's future at its meeting in September.

St Luke's church on the corner of Manchester and Kilmore Streets. Tape and fencing have been placed around the building to keep people away. There is damage to the top of the gable, and tarpaulins covering the hole to prevent weather damage to the inside of the building.

A video of a press conference about the ChristChurch Cathedral. The video includes statements by Jim Anderton and Stefano Pampanin, Associate Professor of Engineering at the University of Canterbury. Anderton and Pampanin discuss a report produced by the Great Christchurch Buildings Trust (GCBT) which outlines how the cathedral could be safely restored. The Anglican Church has agreed to review the report.

Anglican and Catholic churches will unite today, holding services with cathedral bells tolling throughout the country in remembrance of those who died in the Christchurch earthquake.

One of the most potent symbols of the earthquake has been the massive amount of destruction caused to Christchurch's Anglican Cathedral, including the toppling of its spire.
