Today is the anniversary of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that hit Canterbury on 4 September 2010, and two lights - The White Lights of Hope - were turned on this evening from the square to help fill the city's "dark heart" and remind residents to look forward to a bright future. Note: While I was capturing this image we had a ...
The Old Lyttelton Post Office, opened in 1874, showing damage after a series of earthquakes hit Christchurch and Lyttelton over the last 9 months. In the shadow of a broken house, Down a deserted street, Propt walls, cold hearths, and phantom stairs, And the silence of dead feet — Locked wildly in one another's arms I saw two lovers meet. ...
The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Christcurch, after the 6.3 magnitude quake on 22 February 2011. The dome has now been taken down (and is on the ground on the right side of this image) and you can see the orange and green of the workmen's hi-vis in the tower section.
Work is continuing on the earthquake damaged South New Brighton bridge. Avon River to the left, Avon-Heathcote Estuary the other side of the bridge.
20130704_7677_EOS M-22 Another one on the way out (Day 185/365) A suburban "red zone" house from Velsheda Street (#11), Pacific Park, is finally cut in half and loaded ready for transport out and a future life somewhere else in the South Island, whether it be close by or way down south in Gore or Clinton (where a few have gone already). The hou...

Only it is worse this time! As from Wednesday I won't have car access to the property, nor the street, nor one of the neighbouring streets - for a month at least! A second attempt to do a sewer repair after the earthquakes - yes I know they were 3 to 2½ years ago!
Known by the locals as the "Manager's House" of the large brick and tile works which was situated nearby. Established by the Austin brothers in 1863 the brickworks were named after the town of Farnley in Yorkshire England, from where the family had come. I remember the brickworks as a child and I think they were demolished in the 1970's. Very sa...
A view after the 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch 22 February 2011. Corner of Barbadoes and Kilmore Streets. So sad to see history die - both buildings and business.
Taken several days after the 6.3 magnatude quake hit Christchurch 22 February 2011. Processed in HDR to capture some of the "feeling" when thinking about the loss of lives when the quake hit.

Closed due to earthquake damage. But it looks in better condition than the building I work in!
Earthquake damage. As a result of the September 2010 earthquake, with further damage from the February 2011 event.
20130125_1749_1D3-400 Road Closed 1 The Lyttelton side of Evans Pass is closed (since the earthquake 23 months ago - 22/02/11). Prior to the road tunnel (through the Port Hills) opening in the early 1960s this was the main access road to the port of Lyttelton. #3072
All this is "red zone" after the earthquakes and has to be demolished. The roof of my "old" house (now owned by the government) can be seen between the third and fourth river-side houses.

When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. And in my hour of darkness She is standing right in front of me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. Let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be. Lennon/McCartney - The Beatles
Tantum Ergo Down in adoration falling, Lo! the sacred Host we hail, Lo! oe'r ancient forms departing Newer rites of grace prevail; Faith for all defects supplying, Where the feeble senses fail. Due to earthquake damage.
Went into this cafe a few times in years gone by (all on camera club field trips or photowalks). It was a nice two-storey building then. Not now after the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.
