A view after the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch 04 September 2010. Victoria Street. So sad to see history die - both buildings and business. Given a bit of a HDR process to add some of what I was "feeling" at the time.
One of the features of the West Coast forests with their extremely high rainfalls is the large quantity of moss, that serve as a background to this mushroom.
Today is the anniversary of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that hit Canterbury on 4 September 2010, and two lights - The White Lights of Hope - were turned on this evening from the square to help fill the city's "dark heart" and remind residents to look forward to a bright future. Tantum Ergo Down in adoration falling, Lo! the sacred Host we hail, Lo! oe'r ancient forms departing Newer rites of grace prevail; Faith for all defects supplying, Where the feeble senses fail. Note: The text of this hymn was composed by St. Thomas Aquinas and, along with O Salutaris Hostia, is strongly associated with the Benedict...
A photograph of the lounge in Donna Allfrey's house at 406 Oxford Terrace. A bed has been placed in the middle of the room. Graffiti on the walls reads, "CHCH recovery, a national disgrace".

RWTU3388135 (ex Triton TTNU3388135) about to be placed on the ground outside my "Red Zone" house. This is the second container, the first is away in storage with 95% of the house hold stuff. This one is for the hobby (no, not photography gear) and garage stuff.
The CBD is slowly being opened up and this is the post - earthquake result of Cashel Mall. A vibrant, fresh look with high end shopping in colourful container shops. A really good step forward for the city.

The center of the river has slumped and the two banks have moved about a meter closer together which caused this footbridge to be so twisted. There is a suggestion that this be left as a memorial to the earthquake.
Oxford Terrace Baptist Church on the corner of Madras St and Oxford Terrace, and alongside the Central City Fire Station on Kilmore St. The organ pipes have been saved and safely removed into safe keeping by the South Island Organ Company.

The result of the magnitude 7.1 earthquake at 4.35am on September 4th 2010. The ballustrade of these buildings collapsed onto the Victorian veranda crushing it. Taken 20 days after the quake. Colombo Street in Sydenham, Christchurch - looking towards the City Centre.
Strange sign when the building it refers to is no longer there. Earthquake damage.
This is what my lunch looked like after spending a month in my office, post-quake. The banana had liquefied in its skin but there wasn't any mould or anything else. The banana absolutely reeked, though; I ended up tossing everything that had been in the lunch box.
Christchurch's CBD as seen from the Cashmere hills, south of the city. Much of the CBD is still cordoned off and without power (as you should be able to spot) as a result of the damage caused by February's deadly earthquake.
Showing some of the spirit of Christchurch
