The building was used as the headquarters for Civil Defence in the aftermath of the 22 February 2011 earthquake, and large white marquees have been set up in its forecourt to accommodate extra personnel. A sign for a community briefing to be held at Oxford Street grass area at Lyttelton Main School on Sunday 17 April 2.30pm. These signs were put up in all locations in Christchurch for each community briefing. The first series (6 March to 12 March) were held in 12 locations, second series (21 March to 26 March) in 10 locations and the third series (16 April to 18 April) in 8 locations.

A poem written on Gap Filler and Poetica's "Instant Poetry" wall on Colombo Street. The poem reads, "Amidst the shards of glass and twisted steel, beside the fallen brick and scattered concrete, we began to understand that there is beauty in the broken. Strangers do not live here anymore". This poem was picked by the public as the favourite poem written on the wall. It was then painted permanently onto the mural.

The footage was sourced from the Christchurch community and cut into an hour-long video spanning 100 years. The monitors are placed amongst wooden pallets, an excavator, and other building material.

The event was held at the Lyttelton Pentanque Club, a Gap Filler project on the site of the Ground Culinary Centre on London Street. In the background, members of the public are also making wool medals to celebrate the achievements of the community after the earthquake.

Papanui, Breezes, Wainoni, Shortland Street and many more roads had large cracks and large sink holes. There were approximately 6 cars and 1 large Ready Mix cement truck that had fallen into holes within a few blocks of each other. All people appear to have escaped without serious injury as far as I could tell".
