The site has been enclosed in a safety fence. A spray-painted sign can be seen at the base of the building reading, "Danger! Wall unstable, stay clear". The photographer comments, "After the Christchurch earthquake in February 2011, Victoria Lake suffered some cracking which broke the previous clay seal. The lake has now been excavated so that the new clay seal can be spread out and flattened ready to be filled again with water. The red pile is the clay and in the background is the grey silt or liquefaction that spewed into the lake from cracks in the lake bed".

Road cones divert traffic onto the southbound lanes. The photographer comments, "Fitzgerald Avenue between Kilmore Street and Bealey Ave is a mess. Half of the road has slumped towards the river by a good metre or two. My brother-in-law was here when the 22nd earthquake hit and he said the damage wasn't as bad as this at first. A local resident told me that the road is slumping more and more each day".

The clock tower of the former Railway Station, encased in plywood to prevent further damage. The photographer comments, "After the September earthquake the clocked stopped at 04:35 and everyone campaigned to have this clock left as it was. At that time the building was believed to be OK. Two more earthquakes later and the possible memorial will probably end up like a lot of Christchurch's heritage buildings on a huge pile of stone and bricks in Bottle Lake Forest".

A small boy is being a real entrepreneur after the Christchurch earthquake of 22 February 2011 and has set up a road-side stall from which you can buy a bag of 'real leakyfakshun'. Behind him is a pile of liquefaction and a spade with which he can fill bags. Context - the Christchurch earthquake of 22 February has caused vastly more liquefaction than the original 4th September earthquake. The vibrations from the quake cause liquefaction which is where the soil loses strength and stiffness, and behaves more like a liquid than a solid - rather like wet sand.
