Water from the river at high tide crosses Evans Avenue and enters a now abandoned "red zone" house via the garage. Next door (to the left) is the garage containing a car that was destroyed by fire last week (see earlier photos).

To those silent sentinels, the guardians of the night, who insured our peaceful homes and sheltered our children from fright. We give our thanks and praise for the sacrifice they bore, and pledge always to remember their gift of service in war. Gerard A. Geiger March 23, 1996
Corner of Colombo St and Battersea St. A lot more of the fascade has collapsed.
A view after the 6.3 magnatude quake hit Christchurch 22 February 2011. Monsters in the Rafters You have no right to do this. Build me up Just to break me down. I wonder how you feel As I lie here alone. Fighting the monsters In my mind. Beyond the rafters Of the unknown. From a poem by Pinkieswear
Earthquake damage. As a result of the September 2010 earthquake, with further damage from the February 2011 event.
The center of the river has slumped and the two banks have moved about a meter closer together which caused this footbridge to be so twisted. There is a suggestion that this be left as a memorial to the earthquake.
Oxford Terrace Baptist Church on the corner of Madras St and Oxford Terrace, and alongside the Central City Fire Station on Kilmore St.
This restaurant used to do bookings for large groups only and you all had to pick and wear funny hats from hooks around the walls.

The side wall of the building on the left collapsed onto their roof, collapsing it into the stonemasons store. Several gravestones were also damaged!
