It's five years since the earthquake, and for the first time I feel a sense that the rebuild is taking effect. In this photo - the left hand building is on the way up, and the right hand building is on the way down.

20130211_2645_1D3-840 South New Brighton bridge damage (under repair) Earthquake damage (that right hand abutment should be vertical with the bridge and the hand rail level). Bridge is closed to eastbound traffic (to left) and has a 3500kg weight limit as well. The eastern approach is the same. Damage caused mainly in the 04/09/10 and 22/02/11...

If you look very closely, running from the nearest right desk to the second desk on the left hand side, you can see my 'fault-line', - the crack that runs the length of the classroom under the lino.

Mandeville Bridge

This is the pedestrian bridge in Kaiapoi close to Christchurch. Not the best angle but the whole bridge on the right hand side is twisted and looks like some kind of rollercoaster. Taken one month after the Quake Twitter |

Cleaning up Manning Signs of the silt from liquefaction. Three fellow workers man the shovels while two building engineers talk to the boss (hidden). After doing the car park we then turned our hands to the inside of the factory, once clearance was given that we could go inside.
