The base of the tower on the right of this picture has sunk so that the lower course of bricks have disappeared below ground level. The sand you can see is what came bubbling up out of the ground due to liquifaction.
The bridge on River Road just before the Banks Ave turn off. The bridge approach to the left subsided. Temporary repairs have been carried out but you can still see evidence of the amount of subsidence by the traffic island in the middle of the road.
Taken several days after the 6.3 magnatude quake hit Christchurch 22 February 2011. Processed in HDR to capture some of the "feeling" when thinking about the loss of lives when the quake hit.

This is the pedestrian bridge in Kaiapoi close to Christchurch. Not the best angle but the whole bridge on the right hand side is twisted and looks like some kind of rollercoaster. Taken one month after the Quake Twitter |
There are quite a few signs like this around Christchurch after the Quake. This is one of them. Off shot to the right is a leveled patch of ground where the owners furniture restoration shop used to be. Twitter |
After the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch 10 days ago we are reminded of Spring and that things are starting to look a little better now.
A view after the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch. Colombo Street South. So sad to see history die - both buildings and business. Given a bit of a HDR process to add some of what I was "feeling" at the time.

Overlooking McCormacks bay out across the city with the Southern Alps as a backdrop. There is still a strong effect from the July 11, 2011 Volcanic erruption (Puyehue) in Chile. Ash made it over to New Zealand causing very strong colours at sunset. The colours have not been artificially changed and its not a mash up. The parts of the city (and...

On a walk over to Hagley Park to great some shots of the wonderful Cherry Blossom I past by the Knox Church rebuild and found that the scaffolding has come down at last. It sure was shinning in the midday light. Victoria Street September 12, 2014 Christchurch New Zealand

The Cranmer Court demolition started today in Christchurch. The 1876 building was originally a Normal School and was in a derelict state in the early 1980s when it was rescued and converted into apartments. The heritage-listed building was red-stickered after the February 2011 earthquake.
Much of the CBD will be cordoned off and without power (as you should be able to spot) for quite some time as a result of the damage caused by February's deadly earthquake.
