The magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck mid-Canterbury on Saturday 4 September 2010 broke the tip of the spire of the St John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Leeston
It would have been a glorious Spring day in Christchurch had it not been for the magnitude 7.1 earthquake at 4:30 am. All the water and silt you can see covering the street in this photo erupted from the ground following the earthquake.
At least two broken pieces from the Scott statue rest in the Canterbury Museum. The statue toppled in the 22nd February 2011 earthquake.
