Time stands still on the Science Museum clock tower as a poignant reminder of the moment the trembler struck Christchurch in the early hours of Saturday 4 September 2010.

It's five years since the earthquake, and for the first time I feel a sense that the rebuild is taking effect. In this photo - the left hand building is on the way up, and the right hand building is on the way down.
The base of the tower on the right of this picture has sunk about 25cm so that the lower course of bricks have disappeared below ground level. Meanwhile the other end of the building has sunk about 50cm splitting the building into thirds. The sand you can see is what came bubbling up out of the ground due to liquifaction. Unfortunately the build...
Reasons why it pays not to be a smoker - if the quake had hit during opening hours there would have been probably half a dozen smokers underneath the black awning crushed by falling bricks.
Typical lateral damage to houses caused by the 7.1 magnitude quake in Christchurch at 4.35am on the 4th September 2010.
The line that runs across this picture is the subsidence line - everything this side of the line has sunk by about 50 cm.

If you look very closely, running from the nearest right desk to the second desk on the left hand side, you can see my 'fault-line', - the crack that runs the length of the classroom under the lino.

Looked like a nice stereo they had.
Overlooking McCormacks bay out across the city with the Southern Alps as a backdrop. There is still a strong effect from the July 11, 2011 Volcanic erruption (Puyehue) in Chile. Ash made it over to New Zealand causing very strong colours at sunset. The colours have not been artificially changed and its not a mash up. The parts of the city (and...
Went into this cafe a few times in years gone by (all on camera club field trips or photowalks). It was a nice two-storey building then. Not now after the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.
Scavenger Hunt 101 - SH 52 (graffiti) Graffiti (or wall art) on the now visible side of a building in central Christchurch. There are still about 100 major buildings to be demolished in the city post the earthquakes.
A view after the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch 4 September 2010. Corner of Colombo and Byron Streets. Given a bit of a HDR process to add some of what I was "feeling" at the time.
Pigeons sit on the remains of one of the tallest buildings in Christchurch that was 95% demolished two or three years ago. The basement (now filled with water) and the columns remain. Demolished due to damage from the Christchurch 2011 earthquake.
20160703_144759_GT-S7275T-04 New sea wall at Redcliffs (185/366) I went for a drive in my second car mainly to charge the battery up and forgot to take my camera gear so only had my phone. This is the new rock wall to replace the severely damaged previous one (in the February 2011 earthquake). Work is still underway on the car parking and p...
Six ½ years after the earthquakes there are still a few demolitions taking place. This one is a block of council owned flats. Whether the whole complex is being demolished or not I don't know., but here the centre block of three is being demolished. The green grass is what was sections and houses demolished in 2012-2015 as it is too close to t...
