Franklin talks about the strengthening work which was done to the Arts Centre before the earthquakes, the damage caused by the 4 September 2010 earthquake, and the importance of preserving the character of the buildings.

A photograph of the rubble from the Observatory tower in the South Quad of the Christchurch Arts Centre. The tower collapsed during the 22 February 2011 earthquake. A digger was used to clear the rubble away from the building. Scaffolding constructed around the tower has also collapsed and is amongst the rubble.

A photograph of the Citizen's Memorial outside the ChristChurch Cathedral on Cathedral Square. The angel in the memorial has bracing around her neck and waist to keep her upright. Behind the memorial, damage to the roof of the Cathedral can be seen. Wire fencing has been placed around the entire building.

A walkway from Gloucester Street to the Square was opened up for a few days to allow the public a closer look at the cathedral. The tower and the front wall of the building have partially collapsed. Steel bracing has been added to the front wall for support.

It is stocked with the books that were on circulation when the earthquake happened, as the majority of the Central Library book stock is still inaccessible in the Gloucester Street building".
