A walkway from Gloucester Street to the Square was opened up for a few days to allow the public a closer look at the cathedral. The tower and the front wall of the building have partially collapsed. Steel bracing has been added to the front wall for support.

Cables have been attached to the balcony over the walkway and braced to posts cemented into the ground. This is to stop the building from slumping further.

The family are one of many living in sheds, garages, and tents despite the government's claim that there is no housing crisis in Christchurch.

The SCIRT team found the tramline while repairing the damaged wastewater system under North Avon Road in May.
