Large sections of the church have collapsed and the bricks and other rubble have spilled onto the footpath and street in front. Sections of the scaffolding, constructed up the side of the building before the earthquake, have also collapsed.

Anderton and Pampanin discuss a report produced by the Great Christchurch Buildings Trust (GCBT) which outlines how the cathedral could be safely restored. The Anglican Church has agreed to review the report.
