From My Little Blue Window
By Elvis Costello
Well, I was a gloomy soul
Never thought I see a brighter day
The dark interior
Blows those silver clouds away
'Til now this was my view
But I'm counting on you
How am I ever going got make you see?
Nothing in this ugly world comes easily
I want you to be...
My lovely hooligan
Come by and...
As it was left on 22nd Feb.
A black and white photograph of a pile of rubble in front of a window. In the background behind the window a gap in the building can be seen. The photographer comments, "The result of the Christchurch earthquakes".
Broken stained glass in a window of the ChristChurch Cathedral. The photographer comments, "I only managed to get one picture of the badly earthquake damaged Christchurch Cathedral and I did not want to get the buttresses holding it up like some Medieval siege engine, so I thought this one was perfect. Looking through the window notice that the adjacent wall has gone and the blue windows belong to an office block across the road".
Detail of the TimeZone window on Colombo Street. On it are posters from pre-quake, and damage is evident by the faded pink batts seen through the window. Damage to buildings across the street are also reflected in the window.
A digitally manipulated image of a shop window. A vase is visible in the window, and the sillhouette of a mannequin in the background. The photographer comments, "The title came from the pot and the E on the window. This is a building that has been off limits since the Christchurch earthquake. The E was sprayed on the window by rescue teams after searching the building and finding it was empty. This is a very old wooden building that looks OK from the front, but terrible from the side as the previously adjoined building has been demolished.

A digitally manipulated image of a broken window on Spicer House. The photographer comments, "One of the office blocks in Christchurch City, New Zealand. As the window has not been fixed I am presuming that this building will be slowly demolished at a later date".
A digitally manipulated image of two stained glass windows. The photographer comments, "This is an abstract of the stained glass window of St Peter's Church in Christchurch, New Zealand. The church was seriously damaged in the Christchurch earthquake".

A bollard covered in tattered posters. The photographer comments, "After the Christchurch February 2011 earthquake no more adverts were pasted onto this advertising pillar. Over a year later the posters are starting to peel off and reveal older ones. It seems that the constant addition of new posters was keeping everything in equilibrium, but with no new posters everything is literally falling apart".
