Photograph captioned by Fairfax, "Quake: Lyttelton: residents whose pets have fled are posting lost notices at Lyttelton Civil Defence".
A missing cat poster on a tree. The title reads "LOST" and contains a description and some contact details about the pet cat.
Text reads 'Pet of the day... ' Below is a notice tacked to a wall which has an image of a cat wearing spectacles on it. Text reads 'LOST. Large moggy, last seen roaming in Christchurch. Answers to the name of "Gerry" or "Dinners ready". Has a loud purr, looks cuddly but can turn...' Context: This is a reference to Gerry Brownlee, the Minister for Earthquake Recovery. When National announced its offer based on the 2007 rating valuation to red-zone property owners on 23 June, Gerry Brownlee specifically told people who had made improvements between the time of the valuation and the September quake to 'keep their receipts'. The offer from CERA dated August 19 now says quite clearly that people can only seek an adjustment to the purchase price if the rating valuation is based on an incorrect floor area, or if 'you have received a code compliance certificate for consented building work undertaken after the rating valuation and that work increased the floor area of your house'. A sticker produced by SPCA Canterbury for residents to stick on their doors, indicating that there is an animal inside the property. This was produced after the 2010 and 2011 Canterbury earthquakes to help emergency personnel determine whether an animal is inside the building.
A notice nailed to a tree near the river reads, "Health warning, contaminated water. Due to sewage overflows this water is unsafe for human contact and activity and is a public health risk. Please keep all people and pets out of contact with the water and do not consume any seafood or shellfish collected from this area".
A sign warning of contaminated water lies on the ground. The sign reads "Warning, contaminated water. Due to Sewage Overflows the water is unsafe for human contact and activity and is a Public Health Risk. Please keep all people and pets out of contact with the water and do not consume any seafood or shellfish collected from this area." The photographer comments, "The sign for contaminated water has fallen, but the warning should still be heeded".
A man gets a phonecall from the Earthquake Commission (EQC) informing him that he can 'remediate and build here again!' The call comes just as another aftershock happens causing the family and pets to huddle in a terrified crowd as the house collapses around them and they find themselves waist-deep in mud and water. Refers to the Canterbury earthquake of 4th September and its continuing aftershocks as well as the problems surrounding rebuilding. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).
