A view 4 weeks after the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch.
Corner of Colombo and Byron Streets.
Given a bit of a HDR process to add some of what I was "feeling" at the time.
Detail of a light fitting outside the former Ozone Hotel in North New Brighton. The photographer comments, "The broken light fitting is on the Ozone Hotel, which is red stickered after the 22 February 2011 earthquake in Christchurch. They will need to fix the building before this light gets a new bulb. The distinct blue colour seen is what made the Ozone stand out on Marine Parade".
Broken stained glass in a window of the ChristChurch Cathedral. The photographer comments, "I only managed to get one picture of the badly earthquake damaged Christchurch Cathedral and I did not want to get the buttresses holding it up like some Medieval siege engine, so I thought this one was perfect. Looking through the window notice that the adjacent wall has gone and the blue windows belong to an office block across the road".
A digitally manipulated image of Latimer Square. The photographer comments, "It is so nice to stand in the middle of Latimer Square on a bright Winter's day and forget the havoc that is around you. The square has hardly been touched by the Christchurch earthquake, but it is surrounded by demolished and damaged buildings".
A vehicle parked beside a broken streetlight in Parklands. The photographer comments, "This street light was shaken apart during the one of the double earthquakes on 23 December".
A digitally manipulated image of light sculptures on Gloucester Street during the LuxCity event. The photographer comments, "This was part of the LuxCity event in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was a way of creating a city of lights on the sites of demolished buildings in the earthquake devastated red zone. 350 architecture and design students from all around New Zealand created and constructed 16 pop up spaces".

A photograph of a window detail and outdoor light bulb of 216 Peterborough Street.

A very different looking Castle Rock to what was there pre earthquakes.
The title reads 'CBD: High water table, flood/liquefaction risk...' The cartoon shows several Southern Right whales being used to ferry people around Christchurch City. Someone says 'Who needs light rail when you can have right whale!' Context: discussion about building a light rail system as a part of Christchurch post-earthquake development. Context: Several large Southern right whales have found Akaroa Harbour to their liking this week, sticking around rather than heading back south as part of their annual migration back to Antarctica.

A stained-glass window in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament casts coloured light onto carved angels on the wall, seen before the earthquakes.
The unforgettable beauty of lavender
Occurs in both the earth
As well as part of the many changing
Shades of the daily heavens on high.
Is quickly there, and then is gone.
Light violet, lavender,
How unique is its special glow,
Colored in nature in light lilac,
Amethyst, and airy, purple indigo.
From a poem by Gil Saenz
A carving of angels on the wall of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament is coloured by light coming from a stained-glass window, seen before the earthquakes.
73 months after the earthquake that damaged it, the jetty at South New Brighton Domain is still not repaired. Seven years ago it was straight and level.
Dull, flat and orrible (horrible) light meant this image was destined to become monochrome!
