The Avon River in Richmond. The river level is very high, and the water is grey with silt. The photographer comments, "By the corner of Medway St and River Rd. The Avon seems to be very full, with grey silt laden water".
Taken soon after the 6.3 magnatude quake hit Christchurch 22 February 2011. Done in HDR to capture some of the "feeling" of what I felt.

Liquefaction silt and sand cover the lawn of a residential property. The photographer comments, "This is a garden inundated with liquefaction. Though most liquefaction is grey in Christchurch there must have been golden sandy beaches before the volcanoes erupted millions of years ago".
A photograph of some simple street art on a concrete wall. The artwork depicts a masked boy with red hair, nestled between the colourful letters of tag writing. An excavator from Mount Grey Downs Limited and some stacked concrete slabs are in the foreground.

Taken soon after the 6.3 magnatude quake hit Christchurch 22 February 2011. A friend tried to get home when the road opened up and her 4 wheel drive went down. We could not get it out! The grey liquefaction has stuck the other car fast. It took less than an hour to grow this thick.
A digitally manipulated photograph of the bottom of Victoria Lake in Hagley Park. The photographer comments, "After the Christchurch earthquake in February 2011, Victoria Lake suffered some cracking which broke the previous clay seal. The lake has now been excavated so that the new clay seal can be spread out and flattened ready to be filled again with water. The red pile is the clay and in the background is the grey silt or liquefaction that spewed into the lake from cracks in the lake bed".
Damage to River Road in Richmond. The road is badly cracked and slumped, and is closed off with a row of road cones tied with warning tape. The word "closed" has been spray painted on the road surface. The photographer comments, "These photos show our old house in River Rd and recovery work around Richmond and St Albans. River Rd was again subject to severe lateral spreading. The river is still grey with silt, the road is ripped and sunken, and power poles lean at random angles. The red car belonged to a postie, who had to come back with a tow truck to extricate the car from the hole that had opened underneath it. Looking along River Road to the north-east. Taken outside 79 Medway St".
