Tens of thousands turned out today to mark the one year anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck the city at 12.51pm on 22 February, 2011.
185 people lost their lives.

Due to the 7.1 earthquake on 4th September 2010 and then the following earthquakes Godley House has suffered severe damage. Godley house was built in 1880 by Harvey Hawkins - see www.godleyhouse.co.nz/

On 15 May 2012, after several months of comparatively small quakes, a 4.5 Richter Scale earthquake was registered only 10 km East of Christchurch. Quake-weary Christchurch citizens feared that another large earthquake was on its way.
