A pigeon perches in the beams of a damaged building. The photographer comments, "The building next door was demolished after the Christchurch earthquake, which exposed the side of this building with it's very old corrugated iron walls. Some of the sheeting was damaged and exposed parts of the interior. The pigeon was sitting on a bit of wood with the beam above it had a very serious crack. I think you would be nervous as well".
A photograph of the former site of a block of apartments at 440 Oxford Terrace. The apartments were demolished after the land was zoned Red. Grass has begun to grow over the site. The number 466 has been spray-painted on the footpath in front, as well as the numbers of each apartment. This number is the incorrect street number for the site.
Dried liquefaction silt in North New Brighton. The photographer comments, "This is the the top layer of liquefaction that has dried up in the hot sun. A broken eggshell is around 5 times stronger than these, but a fallen leaf is just not enough to break one. You can see underneath that the heavier sandy layer of liquefaction has dried and has cracked as well".
A photograph of a section of a mural on the corner of Byron Street and Colombo Street. The section contains a palm tree. A horse is also partially visible. On the left there is the message, "Occupy love and light right here and now. We'll all meet up on Equality Street anyhow. Love light power." Below the message are a variety of hearts in red, white, and different shades of pink.

With the land dropping about 1metre to 1.4metres after the earthquakes, a few roads besides the Avon and Heathcote Rivers are flooded with very high tides. Extra stop banks (on right) erected after the quakes have helped, but the road is now well below high water level. New Brighton Road, just short of New Brighton. The Pages Road bridge may b...

A sign outside Lyttelton's grassy market on Oxford Street reading "Join us for a chat". This sign was placed by members of the Lyttelton community who were stitching felt hearts to hand out to members of the public. The felt hearts were a healing outlet during the Canterbury earthquakes. The goal was to create beauty in the midst of chaos, to keep people's hands busy and their minds off the terrifying reality of the earthquakes, as well as to give a gift of love to workers and businesses who helped improve life in Lyttelton.

The unforgettable beauty of lavender Occurs in both the earth As well as part of the many changing Shades of the daily heavens on high. Is quickly there, and then is gone. Light violet, lavender, How unique is its special glow, Colored in nature in light lilac, Amethyst, and airy, purple indigo. From a poem by Gil Saenz

The South Island is depicted as a punch bag which is reeling with the punishment inflicted after having been practised on by 'blizzards', 'earthquakes', 'disasters' and now 'drought'. Context; the Christchurch earthquake of 4 October and the Pike River Mine disaster of 19 November as well as some fairly extreme weather. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).
Shows Christchurch's Anglican cathedral receiving extensive treatment including blood, ambulances, scaffold and signs reading 'save!' In the background Christchurch's Catholic Cathedral says it wants its share of attention as well. Context: The focus of repairing the Christchurch Anglican cathedral appeared to draw focus and resources from the equally historic and damaged Catholic Cathedral. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).
A stack of wooden frames with the words "Quake makes world headlines" written on the uppermost frame. The photographer comments, "This is a sculpture at the CPIT facility in Christchurch. It is a series of squares placed over a column with writing on the squares. It is an excellent movable sculpture that conveys the Christchurch earthquake very well. The squares are placed so that they can slide over each other and even fall inside the other on one side. It is a pity that only two sides of the squares are written on".
A photograph of an earthquake-damaged house on Marine Parade in North Brighton. The front section of the house has collapsed, the rest buckled.
