Student leaders, including UCSA President Kohan McNab and Sam Johnston, head of the Student Volunteer Army, leading students from the University of Canterbury in a two minute silence to remember those who died in the 22 February 2011 earthquake. They have stood on top of the ENSOC fire engine to address the crowd, and the event has been filmed from that vantage point. The students have been enjoying a barbeque lunch break in Burwood Park after volunteering to dig up liquefaction as part of the Student Volunteer Army.

A car on Rowses Road has its entire front half embedded in liquefaction after falling into a sink hole. The photographer comments, "Perhaps the most impressively stuck car was this small silver hatchback that went head first into a large hole in a street just off Shortland Street (between Shortland and Breezes Road) in Aranui. The rear hatch was open when we came across it. Apparently there had been one person and a dog inside but they managed to escape. The silt has now settled around and inside the car, making the vehicle an intimidating monument to the earthquake".

Personnel from the USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) standing in Firefighters Reserve, in preparation for the two minutes of silence to honour the people who lost their lives in the 22 February 2011 earthquake. Just out of the picture is a sculpture fashioned from 5 tonnes of structural steel salvaged from the site of the World Trade Centre following their collapse on 11 September 2001 in terrorist attacks on New York City. The sculpture is now used as a tribute to firefighters in New Zealand.

The chairs are different so that you can find a chair to remind you in some way of the people who died. Peter told me about the important paintings of chairs, such as Van Gogh and Gaugin's paintings of chairs and the drawing of Dickens's Chair published above his obituary that influenced his decision to remember the lost lives with chairs".

Here numerous earthquake damaged streets of houses will be flattened due to it being to uneconomical in the current climate to repair the land to be suitable for housing. There is a campaign at the moment to try and convert all this red zone land, which is mainly adjacent to the Avon river to a giant park".

Spray-painted writing on the side of a car parking building reads "0 cars". The photographer comments, "Strangely and appropriately this graffiti was on a car park. In fact the graffiti was 100% correct as the car park is in the Christchurch earthquake red zone and there should be zero cars now inside it. It may have been put on by an anti car protester or just an indication that the car park is empty. One of the suggestions for the City plan for the rebuilt Christchurch was for a pedestrian and cycle only area, which also fits in with 0 CARS".
