A large pile of liquefaction silt in Parklands has been topped with a Christmas star. The photographer comments, "Not exactly the kind of sand castle you want to build on your Summer holidays. This is the biggest of several piles of liquefaction in just one street in Parklands/Queenspark".

The cartoon shows two images of cars nose-down in ditches, the first is caused by 'liquifaction' and the second by 'stupifaction'. Context: there was another large aftershock on Boxing Day in Christchurch which resulted in quite a lot of liquefaction. There is always concern over the Christmas holidays about drinking while driving.

A boy writes a list of items that seem to be for a camping holiday but it turns out that he lives in Christchurch and these items; a tent, a groundsheet, sleeping bags, a gas cooker and lamp and a chemical toilet are what may be needed because of earthquakes. Context: quakes and aftershocks continue unabated over Christmas and into the new year.
