Damage to the former Sumner Borough Council building. The brickwork is badly cracked, and parts of the wall have collapsed, exposing the interior. Shipping containers below the building protect the street from falling masonry.
Earthquake damage to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Shipping containers support the front of the building to prevent further damage, and workers are suspended from a crane above the remains of the dome.

A photograph looking west down Worcester Street from the intersection of Manchester Street. Building rubble lies on the right side of the road, and a shipping container is situated outside the Design and Arts College.
Shoppers and tourists in the Re:Start mall, seen from upstairs in one of the cafes. The photographer comments, "The new temporary city mall has been open in Christchurch now for a week. Buildings damaged in the earthquake have been demolished and replaced with cargo containers to create a new, temporary, Cashel Mall. I visited the mall yesterday and was quite impressed with what they have done. The cargo containers have been nicely converted, brightly painted and smartly branded to create some good looking stores".

A photograph of the rubble of the Observatory tower in the South Quad of the Christchurch Arts Centre. The tower collapsed during the 22 February 2011 earthquake. A digger was used to clear the rubble away from the building. Scaffolding constructed around the tower has also collapsed and is amongst the rubble. In the background is a shipping container. A red sticker has been placed on the door to the Physics Building.

Damage to the front of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Large cracks are visible in the stonework, and one side is supported by shipping containers and hay bales. The photographer comments, "The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament has a lot of cracking on the exterior and one column appears to be leaning to the right. To my non-expert eye it does look like the front could easily give way. Notice the broken supporting beam".
