Meet the UC CEISMIC interns: Marian
This semester, UC CEISMIC is hosting eight University of Canterbury Bachelor of Arts interns. Marian Jennings writes about her experiences as an intern with the project:
Hi! I'm Marian and I am an archivist for children's
collections for UC CEISMIC. The Canterbury earthquakes have
affected many aspects of society including schools, education and
children. Many schools were damaged and students displaced
temporarily or permanently. The effects of these events on children
may not yet be realised, so I'm archiving all sorts of information
(such as school newsletters and children's interviews) that may aid
future research. Children also have their own perspective of the
earthquakes which might go un-noticed if not recorded. I am doing
this internship because I enjoy working with children and issues
surrounding education. I can appreciate the value of quality
archives through my majors in Classics and Maori and Indigenous
Studies, which have involved working with archives as evidence for
research. Now that I am nearing the end of my degree, I see this
internship as a great way to combine my skills and knowledge while
getting valuable work experience.
